The university was founded on January 1, 1970, transitioning from the Kalymk Pedagogical Institute to become the first state university in the republic. Presently, Kalmyk State University boasts 10 faculties, and the Institute of Kalmyk Philology and Oriental Studies offers a wide array of programs across various disciplines.
